Latest: We need your support to fund meals for the vulnerable with 1,000s of restaurants on standby - donate now via JustGiving !

See how you can help the cause

If you operate a commercial kitchen, you can help feed those in need in your community by pledging to open your kitchen. Participating restaurants produce meals against a budget of up to £1.85 per meal (including production costs - gas, electricity, PPE and packaging), funded by your local community and local businesses.

You’ll be promoted via the Open Kitchens platform and on social media, with participating kitchens required to pledge a minimum of 300 meals per week for 6 weeks or more.

Promoting this initiative to your community and raising funds will be your responsibility via a dedicated Just Giving page you will receive and funds will be sent weekly to cover ingredient and operating costs. Open Kitchens will support promoting you via various channels and distribute the meals to those in need in your community.

You will not be paid a salary, but you will be paid for the costs of producing the meals at up to £1.85 per meal produced. Employers who have employees furloughed will not lose their right to claim 80% of their salary from the government as this activity is for a not-for-profit organisation and does not include pay. In addition, meals that require preparation in people’s homes are zero-rated for VAT purposes.

You can order the supplies you may need including masks, gloves, hand sanitiser, packaging and Open Kitchens at cost via the dedicated store, as and when required as per our reduced-transmission model.

Open Kitchens is a not-for-profit initiative. All kitchens who open to cook meals for their community receive funding from their community in order to cover the costs of producing the meals (ingredients, gas, electric, packaging, labels and PPE) so all funds raised go to feeding those in need.

We are reliant on funding from the community and local businesses in order to cover the production and distribution of the meals to those in need against a maximum budget of £1.85 per meal. For just £18.50 you can fund the production and distribution of 10 tasty and nutritious meals to those in need in your community!

We rely on you, the community to spread the word in order to help feed those in need. In this age, most people have access to the internet and social media, so regular updates to your network on what Open Kitchens is doing can make a huge difference. Here are some tips on how you can help:
